Ahmed Azzawi

(* 1977 in Sarra/Salh Addeen, Iraq) was supposed to become a medical doctor, but turned to Literature when he was 15 years. He studied Literature at the Institute for Arabic Languages and holds a Master degree in Modern Arabic Literature. In 2004 he joined a writers group. In 2008 he started to work as a volunteer for the group, teaching music and literature. Azzawi also teaches Modern Literature at the University of Tikrit. In 2009 he received a Mahmoud Darwish Poetry Prize in the category "Poetics of loss" (2nd Prize).
