KITAB! The Book in Iraq after the Occupation

Filmscreening with English Subtitles

In 2009 we face a world much different from the previous year. Changes in politics and economics are causing many to question their motives in relation to Arab authors and publishers. The Iraqi poet Amal Al-Jubouri interviewed some of the region's leading intellectuals and authors, policy-makers and booksellers and produced a documentary about the book in Iraq after the occupation (Baghdad 2009, 13min).

Among the interviewed are: Najim Al-Chakri (Founder of the Al-Mutanabbi Book Auctions), Tarek Harb (Iraqi Lawyer/Expert in Copyright Law), Majid Al-Samaraye (Al-Hayat Newspaper, Head of the Baghdad Office), Naama Al-Ghakami (Member of the Iraqi Publishers Union), Aquil El-Mendalawi (Director Cultural Relations, Iraqi Ministry for Cultural Affairs)
